My First Christmas

WOW my very first Christmas, I remember it well!

Carla has asked me to tell the story and since I am now an old dog, 91
in your years, the only thing I like better than sleeping is telling
stories.

I was almost one by the time Christmas rolled around, my birthday is
February 12th. I was just getting used to living with Don and Carla and
mostly things went along pretty much on my schedule. Then they did this
very strange thing, they brought a tree into the house and covered it
with all sorts of lights and balls. I Love Balls! They are my favorite
toy; in fact still to this day I have been known to chase a ball or
two.

Then a few days after the tree came in Carla started putting
“things” under the tree all wrapped in bags. They were the
kind of bags that they use to bring all that food into the house. I
kept going over to smell and find out if there was any food for me in
any of the bags, but they kept telling me “NO”. Humph!

Pretty soon there was not enough room under the tree and Carla started
lining all the new bags up along the wall, right in front of my bed.
When I went over to investigate they kept getting mad at me and saying
“NO”.

Then it happened, they went out and left me alone in the house!! They
had left me alone in the house before and all I did was sleep the whole
time they were gone. This time it was different...

This time I decided to do some investigating, surely there must be
food for me, what other reason cud there be to keep telling me "NO"
every time I went to look.

So I started out just sniffing, I've got a pretty good sniffer figured
I could find out just exactly what was going on

Then I found I had to get in there with my paw, so as to uncover some
of the bags, because each bag had other fancy bags inside. There were
so many bags I just had to get right under that tree with
both my paws in order get things out.

Well even tho it smelled like it from laying on my bed, I could find
nothing with any food in it for me!

So I moved over to the bags along the wall...
NOW that was a different story, I cud really smell food for me here,
there were just so many bags I had to lift some up and TOSS them out
of the way so that I could get to the ones with food for me.

A couple of the bags I was not to sure about, so I picked one up in my
mouth and shook it, and shook it and shook it. You know how we dogs can
do, that violent shaking back and forth, I figured that wud be the best
way to get my food out. Then I heard some funny sounds from inside the
bag - kind of like the sound when a cup falls on the floor and breaks.
HMMMM, guess that one ain't food!!!

I moved on and shook many more bags, some broke open and guess what
I found FOOD!!! Treats, Treats, and more Treats, of course they must be for me.

I ate so many of them I had so much energy I couldn't move fast enough
I raced around the house, woops, was that a plant I knocked over, OH Well!

I raced even more, WOW, I've never been up on this big table before, it's fun
oh dear, me and everything on the big table went sliding off. Hey that
was just like the kids sliding in the park, think I'll do that again!!

Well I raced around, had a good time, ate a couple more treats.

There were so many treats I could not eat them all. All that racing around
the house has made me tired, guess I shud go back to being a good dog and
go to sleep on my bed.

I really don't understand why when Don and Carla came home they were so mad,
after all those treats had to have been for me, I just opened them early!

Off To Grandma's House

Carla has been so nice and taken me to Grandma's house.

I love going to Grandma's house because I get to go for
many, many walks during the day.

The woods have excellent smells and the smells tell a great story.
There are deer, horses, bear and tons of other small things.

It has been a real adventure from the beginning...
got to go to work with Carla on Thursday and sleep
in the van all day long! My favorite place to sleep.

We then caught the ferry right after work...
but Carla brought a friend along so she did not spend
the whole trip across down in the van with me.

We spent the nite in Nanaimo with Auntie Dawn and
her dog Katie.

Katie is a very good dog! I like visiting her.

Friday morning we got off to a late start...
didn't leave Nanaimo till 9:00 AM

Then Carla stopped at every one of my favorite
pee spots all the way up island.
